What is the Frenulum?

Home > Pleasure School > Pleasure & Body > What is the Frenulum?

A penis has several parts and aspects that affect its various functions. The shaft, the glans, the foreskin, and the scrotum are the parts we are more aware of, however, the frenulum is another essential part that we must look at for a more nuanced understanding of one’s anatomy.

Before we understand the frenulum let’s technically clear up the more commonly known parts of the penis.

Glans is the tip/head of your penis. The urethral opening is also present here.

Foreskin is the skin that protects the head of the penis. If a person has been circumcised for either medical or religious reasons, they would not have a foreskin.

Shaft is a tube that connects your lower belly to the glans.

So, what is the Frenulum?

It is a band of elastic tissue that connects the glans to the inner side of the foreskin. It is a V-shaped band of skin that is present just below the head. It acts as a bridge tissue connecting the foreskin and the glans. Casually, it’s also called a banjo string.

What is its function?

Frenulum helps with mobility and lets the person pull back the foreskin from the glans. The frenulum is a part of a person’s sexual response system. It is one of the most sensitive parts and can cause pain if the penis is partially erect.

Is frenulum-based orgasm a thing?

Frenulum is an extremely sensitive part because of the presence of several nerve endings, thus making it a super-sensitive erogenous zone. According to many, it can even be considered the clitoris of the penis. It is a prime spot of pleasure for penis owners, massaging and stimulating it can definitely result in intense orgasms.

How to stimulate the frenulum?

Firstly, make sure you and your partner are comfortable. Stimulating genitals can be a vulnerable position for many, hence, consent and constant check-ins are essential. Your partner can use their tongue, tip of their nose or their mouth to stimulate the frenulum. Make sure to communicate with each other and inform the other to go slow, hard or faster.

If you’re indulging in self-pleasure then you can use your hands or a vibrator to massage and stimulate the frenulum. Regardless of whether you’re with your partner or flying solo, make sure to enjoy the process and figure out what works best for you.

How to take better care of your frenulum?

Hygiene down there is extremely important. Just a few healthy habits can go a long way. One of the practices you can maintain is to make sure to always wear clean and fresh underwear. Also, keep your penis dry and clean for better health. Keep checking down there and if you see any irregularities or anything unusual, make sure to contact a healthcare expert.

So far we see that understanding one’s anatomy better can improve sexual experiences for all. Frenulum is a great sweet spot most of us are not either aware of or have stimulated unknowingly. Having facts and information about sexual anatomy can help you achieve stronger orgasms and ensure better sexual care.
